Revealing Details
Lightweight, powerful and built to perform in tough conditions are the qualities demanded by professionals in a powered speaker system. While every manufacturer might have these goals in mind, achieving them at a realistic price point is not so easy. Quest has addressed this challenge with advanced engineering and design processes. The heart of the QM3 is the Quest Hybridtec Amplifier System; a lightweight amplification package that combines the best features of both analogue and digital technologies. Loudspeaker components give the most output for the least weight and the heavy gauge front steel grille and high quality timber ply casing protect your investment in a way that is both practical and stylish.
Hybridtec Amplification
As an engineering company you don’t advance by just blindly following the same road travelled by everybody else. Digital amplification is now popular, but many people complain the high frequency response is “harsh and unnatural”. This is especially true when the amplifier is driven to full power. The Quest solution to this is the Hybridtec System – an Australian developed digitalanalogue hybrid amplifier module which incorporates the best of both worlds. This system has been well tried and tested on the Quest QM450a and now is available on the QM3 and QM4.
The design philosophy behind Hybridtec was simple: “use each type of technology according to its strengths, as opposed to using less appropriate technology just to meet a budget”. The result, is an amplifier with a digital low end component and an analogue high frequency section. In the case of the QM3 a hard knee analogue limiter and extra amplifier clipping protection make it almost impossible to drive the system into distortion. This combination along with significant over engineering on the cabinet and grille designs makes the QM3 one of the toughest and durable products on the market.
Accuracy & Control
The QM3 has a very smooth frequency response and is designed to give a very natural sounding vocal response. The 85 x 75 degree elliptical wave guide gives even coverage with a minimum of feedback causing “hotspots”. This also makes the QM3 an ideal self powered fold-back monitor. When placed horizontally on a stage the QM3 sits at the correct angle, and provides great coverage for stage monitoring. The design of the rear carry handles also protect the connection panel if the QM3 becomes accidentally overturned.
Further EQ control is available with both cut and boost HF/LF controls on the QM3 preamplifier section. This is more convenient than the current fashion of preset user adjustments. The input section of the QM3 allows for either microphone or line level input from 1/4″ inch jack or XLR connectors
Wooden Body, Steel Faced
The QM3 casing is made of the same heavy duty birch ply wood as our high performance and industry trusted HPI systems. Finished with a road worthy black paint coating and fitted with a wrap-around heavy gauge protective steel grille, the QM3 has been crafted to endure even the most demanding environments and is built to last.
